Al Masjid an Nabawi

A spectacular destination in the mountains

Discover about Al Masjid an Nabawi

Al Masjid an Nabawi, also known as the Prophet’s Mosque, is located in the heart of Medina, Saudi Arabia, and is the second holiest site in Islam after the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. It was originally built by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in 622 CE upon his arrival in Medina. The mosque served not only as a place of worship but also as a community center, court, and religious school. Over time, it has been expanded and beautified by various Islamic rulers, reflecting the deep reverence Muslims hold for this sacred site. Its open courtyard, majestic minarets, and the iconic green dome make it a spiritual and architectural landmark. One of the most sacred features of Al Masjid an Nabawi is the Rawdah, an area between the Prophet’s tomb and his pulpit, which is believed to be a part of Paradise. Beneath the green dome lie the tombs of Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, and Umar ibn Al-Khattab—three of the most significant figures in Islamic history. The mosque today can accommodate hundreds of thousands of worshippers and is equipped with advanced facilities to serve pilgrims. Millions visit the mosque each year to pray, seek blessings, and reflect on the life and teachings of the Prophet. It remains a place of immense peace, spirituality, and unity for Muslims around the world.
